Stampeding The 2014 USF Football Roster - #59 LS Alex Salvato

Meet one of USF's specialists.

Kim Klement-USA TODAY Sports

#59 LS Alex Salvato
Redshirt Sophomore, 5'11", 165 lbs.

Stats in 2013: Appeared in one game, vs. Florida Atlantic.

Spot on 2013 Depth Chart: #2 long snapper, behind David Burdetsky.

How did he come to USF: Salvato made the USF roster as a walk-on prior to the 2012 season. He was a good find for USF, since they only had one other long snapper on the roster. The aforementioned Burdetsky was able to do the job as a freshman in 2012, enabling USF to redshirt Salvato.

Salvato went to Victory Christian Academy, a Class 2A (very small) high school in Lakeland. In addition to long snapping, he played some safety and defensive end(!). We even have highlights:

Recruiting Ratings: None. He's in Rivals' database, but they didn't give him a star rating.

Projected Playing Time In 2014: Probably only if Burdetsky is unavailable, or some long-snapping disasters occur.

Fun Fact: Being a walk-on long snapper at USF can be a path to the Super Bowl. Ryan Benjamin was one of the Original Group, the 14 players who lasted from the practice season in 1996 to the end of 2000. Benjamin went on to be a long snapper in the NFL, and was a member of the Super Bowl-winning 2002 Tampa Bay Buccaneers team.
