OLB Jabreel Stephens
6’ 3”, 225 pounds
Armwood High School
It seems like they just keep rolling D1 talent off the conveyor belt in Seffner, and this time the Bulls benefit. Head coach Charlie Strong made sure to shout out Armwood head coach Sean Callahan in his introductory press conference, and it looks like it paid off for him.
It’s still unclear what kind of defense the Bulls will employ in 2017 under Strong, but one can assume at least three linebackers will be on the field in base formations. Now, who plays in those spots is completely up for grabs. Rising senior and team captain Auggie Sanchez is the only player who has his spot locked up. Rising sophomore Nico Sawtelle and junior Danny Thomas got some quality reps last year, but with the graduation of four-year starter Nigel Harris and the transfer of Cecil Cherry, the linebacker room is thin on experience.
Stephens will have to compete with redshirt freshmen Andre Polk and Mi’Cario Stanley for snaps. However, Stephens could be in for a lot of playing time his freshman year.
Stephens could also bulk up a little bit and play defensive end. There’s even less depth at that position, but he might be too small to go in there right away.
