Just two and a half weeks after Charlie Strong and staff seemingly finalized their 2017 recruiting class, they made a late addition on Saturday in the form of Auburndale athlete Chauncy Smart.

Smart’s journey to Tampa is unique. Football wasn’t even his top priority not too long ago.
After opting to miss his senior season of football due to a groin injury, Smart focused on his prowess in track and field. He would go on to sign a National Letter of Intent to run track at Florida State in November, with the opportunity for a preferred walk-on role with the football team.
But after three months of getting to know Charlie Strong and making his official visit this past weekend, the Auburndale two-sport star decided to bring his talents to USF.
He lists himself as a slot receiver in his Twitter bio. Considering his speed, he would be yet another weapon for opposing defenses to account for at any given time. He could also come in handy for an offense that loses speed burner Rodney Adams from the 2016 team.
