Only Johnny Ward Days Until USF Football Season

#24 prepares for his senior year as a valuable role player in USF's secondary.

Kim Klement-USA TODAY Sports

#24 CB Johnny Ward
Senior, 6'0", 178 lbs.

2015 Stats: Ward played in 12 out of 13 games last year, starting the first two games. He recorded a total of 31 tackles, made one TFL, and sacked Brandon Doughty in the Miami Beach Bowl.

Position on Depth Chart: Johnny is not listed on the post-spring depth chart, but with his extensive experience (34 career games played, 12 starts) he's certainly not too far down the pecking order.

How He Came To USF: Ward is one of those rare out-of-state Bulls. He played at Colquitt County High School in Moultrie, Georgia, a small city about an hour northeast of Tallahassee. The Packers made the Class AAAAAA state semifinals in each of Ward's last two seasons, and he recorded 145 tackles, seven sacks, two interceptions, and nine pass breakups. Johnny committed to USF early in the 2013 recruiting cycle, staying on board when Willie Taggart became head coach.

Ward has a highlight reel from Colquitt County on MaxPreps:

Recruiting Rankings: Ward got three stars from 247, and two stars from Rivals, Scout, and ESPN.

Projected Playing Time: Johnny has been eclipsed somewhat by some of the very talented newcomers at defensive back, like Ronnie Hoggins and Mazzi Wilkins, but he still has a role to play in the Bulls' secondary. He should still get some action in normal player rotation, and more playing time against some of the spread teams on USF's schedule.
