Only Devin Abraham Days Until USF Football Season

#20 is looking to bounce back after missing most of spring and regain his starting spot in the USF secondary.

NCAA Football: Cincinnati at South Florida Kim Klement-USA TODAY Sports

#20 FS Devin Abraham
Junior, 5’9", 188 lbs.

2015 Stats: Devin started all 13 games at free safety. He recorded 51 tackles, intercepted three passes, broke up three passes, recovered a fumble, and made one sack and two TFL. He set up USF’s first touchdown at Maryland with a 42-yard interception return, and picked off passes against Cincinnati and UCF.

Position on Depth Chart: Abraham missed most of spring practice with an injury, which probably led to him being listed second behind Tajee Fullwood for the starting free safety spot on the depth chart.

How He Came To USF: Devin played at East Lake High School in Tarpon Springs, where he put up some outrageous statistics. Abraham had a total of 331 tackles, 16 interceptions, and ten touchdowns for the Eagles. He made cameos on offense, and he blocked eight kicks his senior year as East Lake reached the Class 7A state semifinals. He was named to the Class 7A all-state first team and enrolled at USF in January 2014.

Oh wait, that’s Devin’s dad Donnie scoring a touchdown for the Bucs against the Vikings in 1999. Here’s Devin’s reel.

Recruiting Rankings: 247 only gave Devin two stars, but everyone else (Rivals, Scout, ESPN) gave him three.

Projected Playing Time: As long as Abraham is fully healthy, he seems likely to regain the starting free safety spot, even if Fullwood continues to perform well. If for some reason he doesn’t, though, Devin could play another position, and it may open the door for him to put his kick-blocking skills to use on the punt team.

Follow Him On... He’s shut it down for fall camp, but Devin’s Twitter feed is at @DAbraham20. (I see you retweeting our Nate Godwin profile, Devin.) His private Instagram is at devinabraham20.

Trivia: On the all-time USF football roster, Devin Abraham is alphabetically first. Actually the first five players in alphabetical order are all on this year’s roster.
