USF Football continues to load up on defensive speed and talent, this time dipping into Tallahassee to pick up a verbal commitment from Lawton Chiles High School’s Jalen Herring.

Listed as a CB on the recruiting graphic, Herring becomes the fourth cornerback and fifth defensive back to commit to USF football this recruiting cycle.

CB Jalen Herring

5’11”, 175 lbs

Lawton Chiles High School, Tallahassee, FL

Recruiting Rankings: Three-Star on 247 (0.8315 Composite Score) and Rivals.

Other Notable Offers: Army, Navy, Yale, Coastal Carolina

Listed as an athlete by 247, Herring played multiple positions for the Timberwolves this past season, including wide receiver, running back, and a wild cat quarterback. He also competes in track & field, setting a PR in the 100 meter at 11.09 this past season before the season was ended due to COVID-19.

His football stats aren’t well recorded, but his Hudl does display his full potential in speed in numerous positions, including a pick-six, long completions, and returning kick offs. He also has an innate ability to force turnovers via interceptions and forced fumbles.

With Herring’s commitment, the Bulls remain at 4th in the AAC in current recruiting standings according to 247, and 6th according to Rivals. The class is extremely defensive heavy, with nine of the 13 (14 if you count University School Kicker John Cannon) current commits being defensive players.
