Make it 17 high school prospects for USF football’s 2021 recruiting class as the Bulls reached back into the Peach State to grab offensive guard Drew Cornelius out of Heard County.

Under the guidance of longtime head coach Tim Barron, Cornelius comes from a successful Heard County program that has made the postseason in each of the last 15 seasons.

Along with producing talents in recent years like Florida quarterback Emory Jones and Tennessee safety Aaron Beasley, Heard also prides itself on dominating both sides of the line of scrimmage. As a sophomore in 2018, Cornelius played backup for a senior heavy offensive line that plowed their way to a Class AA state championship victory (Full disclosure, I helped cover that team for my old gig at the Times-Georgian- Nick).

What stands out in his film is his utility across the offensive line by playing guard and tackle on both ends. Also sticking out is his athleticism by pulling and getting blocks way down field. Once he engages a defender, he stays relentless until the whistle is blown and finishes his blocks. As a senior, he’s listed as a pre-season All-Class AA offensive lineman in the state of Georgia.
